Life in the District

I'm not a writer and words are not my thing, but I can solve circuitry and physics problems any day. So here are a few things I've been upto since the beginning of this semester. A.O.E is consuming my life, but this week will mark the end of recruitment and we're inviting nine lovely ladies. :) Classes are good, but hard and time consuming especially Physics. I find myself more on Mastering Physics than I find myself sleeping at times. It's terrible! So, this past Monday my senior design instructor completely changed the entire structure of the course. It's a bit frustrating and this means that senior design will be delayed by a semester. But, I guess it leaves me with more time to find a project that I love. Also, Maris was here the first week of school, which made me feel like nothing was changed except when she didn't come home to me. It was sad to say goodbye to her again. It was brief, but a delightful visit.

The city went from being mellow to thousands of people roaming around town the next day. Inauguration was absolute insanity. I've never seen 2 million people in one place. The lines for food, metro and to get to the mall were extremely long. Sunday was the 'We Are One' concert and we were by the lincoln for seven and a half hours. It was also the first time I saw Obama (i.e. on the jumbotron obvi). But, it was exciting nonetheless. We (Cissey and I) witnessed people struggling to climb trees, crowd surfing, people fainting etc. and being bored out of our minds. The concert was a great start to the craziness that was about to go down in the district and there were so many celebrities (Jack Black, Tiger Woods, Tom Hanks, Kal Penn, Samuel L. Jackson) that I had no idea were going to be speaking. And, some of the performances included bruce springsteen, bono, shakira, garth brooks (who surprisingly got the crowd excited with the song 'Shout'), stevie wonder, beyonce etc.

Adam Zuckerman was also in town to experience history along with other people who were studying abroad this semester. Tuesday was the greatest day thus far. I happened to find Ody and Aram in a crowd of two million on the mall (after they abandoned me) to having a nice potluck with the swim team before going to the GW Inaugural ball, which was a ton of fun minus the 12 different rooms we had to look around to find our friends.

Apart from all the inauguration madness, this past weekend, Jenn Lovett visited me from Friday through Monday. We were running wild around town I guess you can say in Jenn's words. We drank an insane amount and it was night where drinking out of bowls became classy. It was also the first time I visited the White House since Obama took oath (twice). It was a completely different ambiance on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. There wasn't a single protester in sight and we hope it continues to be that way.

Lastly, today was an exciting day apa
rt from not getting much sleep the previous night. Java and I stood in line to get tickets to the Jason Mraz and Ben Folds concert on February 13th. Molly, Marissa and I are living in the penthouse of the new dorm for our final year at GW (atleast for Marissa and myself). That's definitely something to look forward to and in the meanwhile there's so much to look forward to this semester including the spectacular show (http://www.divineshows.com/dc) with CC and Julienne, and ofcourse the Engineer's Ball on 2/20. That's all for now. ~ Alpie
